A man sought by police in a reported drive-by shooting at a residence in unincorporated Kendall County was “cooperating” with the investigation but was not in custody, and no charges were pending as of Sunday afternoon, Kendall County Detective Sgt. Joe Jasnosz said.

No one was hurt when “numerous” shots were fired at a home about 6 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Laurie Lane in an area about a mile north of downtown Oswego, authorities said.

Police determined the homeowner and the alleged shooter knew each other and had been involved in a “physical altercation” at a bar in Aurora on Saturday night, according to a release from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched about 5:59 a.m. for a report of shots fired at the home, and upon arriving were told that a vehicle had stopped on Laurie Lane in front of the residence and shots were fired from the area of the vehicle, the release said. Deputies located numerous bullet holes in the residence, the release said.

The homeowner, a 39-year old man, was home at the time of the incident, Jasnosz said. The alleged shooter fled the area before police arrived, but was located, along with the vehicle, in Aurora, with assistance from the Aurora Police Department, police said.

“We spoke with the individual; he is cooperating with the investigation, however no one is in custody and no charges are pending at this time,” Jasnosz said, adding that the investigation was ongoing.

Jasnosz said there was no indication the shooting was gang-related.

“This was a targeted event, not a random act of violence. Nobody else was in the house at the time,” Jasnosz said.

The Aurora Police Department and Kendall County Criminal Intelligence Team were assisting in the investigation, the release said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office at 630-553-5856, email detectives@co.kendall.il.us or call Kendall County Crime Stoppers at (630) 553-5999. Callers to Crime Stoppers remain anonymous and are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of offenders, the release said.
