In February, Silver Cross celebrated its third anniversary in its state-of-the-art 296-bed hospital at I-355 and Route 6 in New Lenox.

The staff remains dedicated to treating patients the way they should be treated with enhanced expertise and safe, compassionate care. This includes emergency care provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year at two locations: New Lenox and Homer Glen.

Both facilities are staffed by a team of highly-skilled independent, board certified emergency medicine physicians, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses and other professionals specially trained in the emergency treatment of adults, children and infants.

With more than 70,000 emergency visits annually, Silver Cross is equipped to handle all types of medical emergencies, injuries and illnesses. The emergency team has the backing of more than 700 physicians including pediatric specialists with Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. These specialists are at Silver Cross Hospital 24/7 to consult when necessary.

Families should also feel rest assured knowing that the Silver Cross Hospital emergency department (ED) is designated by the State of Illinois as Level II Trauma Center and by Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center. The Hospital’s ED has also been recognized by the Illinois Department of Public Health as an Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics.

Plus, Silver Cross serves as the resource hospital for the local EMS system training paramedics and first responders with more than 30 fire department and ambulance services.

The second emergency department is housed in the Silver Cross Health Center at 143rd St. and Bell Road in Homer Glen. It is an extension of the New Lenox ED with an average wait time of 20 minutes or less to begin treatment.

There is onsite testing including X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound, EKG and lab services. And if needed, an advanced cardiac life support ambulance is always on-site to transport cardiac and critical patients once they’ve been stabilized to Silver Cross Hospital for admission or intervention.

Because of the convenience and quick, compassionate care, patients consistently rank the Homer Glen facility in the top 1 percent in the nation for satisfaction.
