I’ve been watching the TV news. They’re talking about the abundance of gasoline in this country. They’re overproducing and everything, but you get an outage at the BP refinery in Whiting and suddenly gas prices shoot up by 30 cents to 50 cents a gallon. Not all American people are stupid. Give us a break, OK?

There has been a lot of complaining that Lincoln-Way North will be closing, but the biggest misfortune is for the students from feeder schools in Mokena and Manhattan. Not much has been said about those students, especially from the District 210 school board and administration. Current North students will move as a whole to another school, but the existing students from Mokena and Manhattan will not only attend a different high school, they will be separated from their friends and teammates now at North. I hope the administration and board will give consideration to what those students will be going through and will have things in place to help them adjust.

I’d just like to make a comment about our parish in Oak Lawn, St. Linus. It seems like this is the only parish in the area that doesn’t ever have any parties or carnivals. It’s run by a bunch of old fuddy-duddies who don’t want to change and refuse to adapt to new ways. Wake up, the Rev. Mark Walter, and change things there before people start leaving the parish.

Due to BP’s recent problem with its refinery in Whiting, causing the gasoline prices to go up, I think everybody should boycott BP and get gas elsewhere.

Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy is worried about the stop-and-search policy violating rights, but where is he about these shootings in the city? What are these officers supposed to do, stand there and let suspects shoot at each other or let them get shot at? McCarthy doesn’t make sense. He talks about little things instead of worrying about all the problems in the city. Do something about the shootings.
In reference to a recent Speak Out comment by Abby from Oak Lawn that Gov. Bruce Rauner is a dictator: I wish she would read the newspaper. The dictator is House Speaker Michael Madigan who wants to hold all the power. He does not want to give up any power. Every time you turn around he is trying to mess with what Bruce Rauner is trying to do. Abby needs to be reminded that Madigan has been speaker for 30 years and where are we? We’re broke. Rauner is trying to straighten it out. He’s only been in for seven months.

In response to the couple in the apartment in Oak Forest, I’m really tired of hearing about the Iraqi War veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder. I’m a Vietnam War veteran. When I came back, we didn’t get any money. We didn’t get free housing. We got treated terribly. Where was all the help when we came back?

To those living in the Mount Greenwood area, please stop tying every color “ribbon” around anything standing still. Yes, some would say that the green and purple ribbons were a loving tribute to Emily Beazley, but those were added to light poles, trees and bus stop signs that already had blue “ribbons” supporting police. And now we see even brighter green “ribbons” along with ones that are orange and gray. Why? I’m sure whoever is doing this has the best intentions, but isn’t your time and money better served elsewhere? Please remove and refrain.

The BP oil refinery in Whiting allegedly has a slight mishap, causing gasoline prices to rise 30 to 50 cents a gallon all over the upper Midwest, meaning Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. This is a fraud. This is price gouging, and our elected officials are doing nothing about it.

I’m sure some diehard sports fans will be offended by my opinion of Michael Jordan and his lawsuit. His actions are pathetic, and he should be embarrassed, considering that he already has tremendous wealth. Sorry to all those who think he walks on water. Not! He’s just a man that could put a ball through a hoop real well.

To the person who complained about Linda Kollmeyer hosting the daily Illinois Lottery drawing, if you don’t like her turn the station. The lottery results are posted online and are in the newspaper every day. I suspect the reason you are upset is because the numbers you play aren’t winning. If that’s the only thing you have to complain about, then consider yourself lucky and get a life.
