Police plan to drain the west side of the Garfield Park Lagoon on Tuesday as they continue their search for the remains of a child, authorities said. Since Saturday afternoon, police have recovered the head, hands and feet of a child from the lagoon. More on the search here.

Draining the lagoon

To drain the west side of the lagoon, a temporary dam will be built at Central Park Avenue, and the water will be pumped into sewers on Hamlin Boulevard. The work is tentatively scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

Hamlin will be closed to traffic from Lake Street to Washington Boulevard.
