Chicago-based United Continental Holdings, parent company of United Airlines, jettisoned its CEO and two underlings under a cloud of federal and internal investigations involving the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. No specifics were given, but it kind of looks like former CEO Jeff Smisek used less than kosher means to get a direct flight from Newark to South Carolina where former Port Authority Chairman David Samson has a vacation home. (At the time Samson was voting on United projects at Newark Airport, which is under Port Authority control). Seems Smisek learned the Chicago Way doesn’t work in New Jersey. Maybe if he had just closed a bridge…
