Sept. 12: The inaugural Unofficial Chive Meetup Beach BBQ to benefit Blue Water Warriors, which takes injured veterans boating in a custom-built, handicap accessible boat, is noon-5:30 p.m. at John U. Sept. 17-20: A Mako Owners Tournament, which is open to all Bass Pro Shops customers regardless of their boat’s make, is out of World Wide Sportsman in Islamorada and hosted by George Poveromo of “George Poveromo’s World of Saltwater Fishing” on NBC Sports. Participants can fish for backcountry, nearshore and offshore species. Top anglers and catches will receive plaques from King Sailfish and framed art by Carey Chen and Thomas Krause. Entry fee is $100 per boat, which includes T-shirts and meals for the crew, and each captain receives a goody bag that includes a $50 Bass Pro Shops gift card. The event begins with a cocktail party at 6 p.m. Sept. 17, followed by the captains meeting.
