The Western Springs Police Department is investigating reports of burglaries to six vehicles that all occurred overnight between 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday morning .

Three of the vehicles were in one driveway on the 4100 block of Johnson Avenue. The other three were in different driveways on the 3900 block of Johnson. All of the vehicles were unlocked. Loose change and a woman’s purse containing personal items and various retail gift and credit cards were reported stolen.

The Police Department reminds residents not to be easy targets for thieves and offer the following tips:

* Keep all vehicle doors and windows closed and locked at all times, even during quick errands. Lock the trunk, hatchback or tailgate to block access into your vehicle. Close all vent or wing windows and sunroofs.

* Don’t leave your car keys in the vehicle.

* If your vehicle has a built in security system, use it. If you don’t have a security system installed, it is worth the investment. It may also qualify you for a discount on your auto insurance.

* Remove items, such as cash, wallets, purse and cellphones, from the vehicle or place them in the trunk, so they are not visible.

* Park your vehicle in an area that is visible to the public and well lit at night. If possible, park your vehicle in the garage. If a garage is not available, park your vehicle in the driveway and install motion-sensor security lighting on your home.
