Google is raising funds for refugees worldwide but is not affiliated with a page called Google Fortunetelling, the company says.
Blue Sky and other outlets reported on the site that mimicked the familiar Google search page but suggested queries such as “Where can I find a safe place?” and “Will I be reunited with my family?”
A message appears after asking a question, stating: “Of course we can’t predict your future! But 60 million refugees ask themselves every day if they have a future at all. So we used a fake Google-site to get your attention because apparently you were interested in your own future. Please take a moment to think of their future.”
Google announced earlier this week it would match about $5.5 million in donations to organizations that provide frontline humanitarian relief to migrants and refugees. By midday Friday, it had raised $10.9 million, nearing its $11 million goal.
