In this Oct. 9, 2013 file photo a 1964 Porsche Type 356 C Cabriolet that once belonged to Janis Joplin is on display in the Porsche By Design Seducing Speed exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, N.C. The car will be auctioned Dec. 10, 2015 by RM Sotheby’s in New York.

The 1,600 cc pushrod engine generated 75 horsepower and was mated to a 4-speed manual transmission but its real appeal was on the outside, with a psychedelic paint job replete with butterflies, rainbows and peace doves by friend Dave Richards, who was also a roadie with her band, Big Brother and the Holding Company. The legendary folk rocker owned it from 1968 to her death in 1970.
