The sun will shine through high cirrus clouds Saturday. Mild temperatures persist as strong high pressure centered well to the north in Canada continues to hold with the eastern U.S. resting in its southern extremity. Low pressure off the Mid-Atlantic coastline has been pumping moisture-laden air westward, dumping most of the associated rain along the coast and Appalachians with a broad band of midlevel and high-level cloudiness working farther west into the Ohio River Valley. As the cloud layer spreads west across Indiana, clouds are expected to thicken in the Chicago area Saturday night into Sunday with a few associated sprinkles or brief showers. The Mid-Atlantic low pressure will begin to move out to sea later Sunday, gradually dragging the cloud shield east. Hopefully the clouds will recede enough for Chicagoans to witness the lunar eclipse Sunday night, but right now that is problematical.
