Each week, readers of New Homes Marketplace ask questions of area homebuilders. John Gallagher, principal with Gallagher & Henry, provides this week’s answers.

Q: Is everything I see in your model homes a standard feature?

— Mark, Barrington

A: While most items in Gallagher & Henry model homes are included standard features, we do allow our designers to include some creative upgrades, particularly those features that have been selected — and well received — by other homeowners. While our architects and designers are up to date with the latest features and trends, we prefer to take the lead from our homeowners and offer them the opportunity to make choices. Whether they choose to build one of our very well appointed homes with standard features or they elect to modify the property to suit their own wants, needs and tastes, Gallagher and Henry offers something for everyone.

Q: How do you ensure my new home is healthy and will be eco-friendly?

— Jason, Orland Park

A: In addition to being compliant, or exceeding, today’s higher construction and energy-efficiency standards required by each governing municipality, every new Gallagher & Henry single-family home is Energy Star qualified. To achieve that standard, each property is inspected and tested by an independent and certified energy rater to ensure it meets certain environmental standards that impact health, comfort and efficiency. Energy Star qualified homes: have better indoor air quality; are more comfortable and quieter; contain less dust, pollen and allergens; and result in lower utility bills, which makes the home a better long-term investment as well.
