Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Mike Ditka, a sun-dried tomato accidentally dropped in a glass of whiskey, is a Chicago sports icon. He was coach of the Super Bowl-winning ’85 Bears and because of that, he’s basically given a pass by everyone in the city, which is fine—Da Bears!

No matter how many times he says nice things about Donald Trump, is rude to Action Bronson or in this case, is late to a 1998 Cubs game and then butchers “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” we’ll still love him, even if 1985 was 30 years ago.

Seriously though, watch this. The clip opens with a very confused WGN broadcasting booth of Steve Stone and Chip Caray (blasts from the past!) trying to introduce the coach for the 7th inning stretch. He’s late, showing up at the very last minute only to slur and scream his way through the song at a blistering pace. Shout out to longtime Cubs organist Gary Pressy who was a hero for keeping up. Check out the rendition below and think of it as a horrible hype video to get you pumped for this evening’s NLDS series opener.
