Kentucky voters elected a tea party/Republican candidate governor Tuesday. Gov.-elect Matt Bevin becomes the second Republican elected to the governorship in the last 40 years. Democrats on the state and local level attribute the election to low voter turnout.
Midterm and off-year elections have been skewing heavily to Republican candidates at all levels of government due in large measure to over-reach by Democrats and progressives but also because of “low voter turnout.”
Assuming there are instances of voter suppression, as loudly proclaimed by Democrats, their main concern should not focus on real and/or imagined impediments to voting but in getting people to vote at all.
Democrats need to wake up to the realization that protecting voter rights, while important, is meaningless if voters don’t understand the importance of actually voting.
