Reading Heidi Stevens’ Monday column, “Imagining the last moments of children who are killed,” first made me cry. Then I decided I needed to answer her call to action and try to make a difference. I have already reached out to my state legislators to ask them to seek stronger penalties for those convicted of violent crimes against children. Now I am writing this letter in the hopes that other grandparents and parents read Stevens’ column and get inspired to action as well.

Let’s never let the news of the cold-blooded slaying of Tyshawn Lee and other children go unnoticed ever again. Join the outcry and do something.
