Though a mild week is forecast, Chicago’s winter parking ban has now begun. The rules are aimed at keeping 107 miles of important roadways clear during the winter season. The city’s on-street parking ban started Tuesday from 3 to 7 a.m. and will continue nightly to April 1. The ban allows the Department of Streets and Sanitation to salt and plow after snowstorms. There are 21 major roadways where the overnight ban takes effect, an annual ritual that forces many parkers onto smaller streets. The other element: The parking ban during storms that drop at least 2 inches of snow affects more streets, applying to 129 roadways to make way for plows.
Signs are in place where rules apply, and you can search for your address below to see streets near you on where you park. The costs for violating the rules are a $60 ticket, $150 towing fee and storage fees at city pounds of $20 per day, according to Streets and Sanitation.
