SOUTH FLORIDA OFFSHORE: After a slight break in the windy weather the past two days, the forecast is for winds of 15-20 knots and rough seas through the weekend. Capt. Chris Lemieux of Boynton Beach said he caught dolphin and a few sailfish this week inside 250 feet of water and he expects the dolphin to remain shallow and for more sailfish to show up when the wind and seas calm down next week. Capt. Skip Dana said lots of dolphin were around for boats fishing out of Hillsboro Inlet, but the sailfish bite slowed. He expects the dolphin bite to be red-hot next week.
EVERGLADES/FRESHWATER: Capt. Alan Zaremba of Hollywood reported that his customers were catching good numbers of schooling peacock bass, along with some largemouth bass, using topwater plugs and hard jerkbaits in urban lakes and canals. If you don’t get into the fish, Zaremba suggested trolling jerkbaits to find the schools.
LAKE OKEECHOBEE: The wind has bass anglers fishing way back in the grass where the water is cleaner and calmer. Swimbaits were working first thing in the morning, then flipping and pitching have been the best bets. Most of the fish have been 1-2 pounds, with a few bass up to 7 pounds.
THE KEYS: Capt. Richard Stanczyk of Bud N’ Mary’s Marina in Islamorada said sailfish were showing up and the bottom fishing has been pretty good.
SOUTH FLORIDA INSHORE: There were good numbers of redfish in Everglades National Park, but otherwise the fishing has been slow.
