SOUTH FLORIDA INSHORE: Capt. Brian Sanders of Davie said the redfish bite is still red-hot fishing south of Chokoloskee Island in Everglades National Park. Wednesday he guided Ned Rosen and Lou Macloskey to 53 redfish from 17-25 inches, plus four tripletails and two snook using live shrimp.
SOUTH FLORIDA OFFSHORE: With a cold front approaching, Friday will be the most comfortable day to fish, as the wind will be howling on Saturday. Capt. Chris Lemieux of Le-Mieux Charters in Boynton Beach reported good catches of kingfish and wahoos trolling and live-baiting along the reef. The other day his anglers caught four kings 14-32 pounds and a 20-pound wahoo. He said dolphin fishing has been good, but the fish were in 1,000-1,500 feet because the water closer to shore has been dirty.
EVERGLADES/FRESHWATER: Capt. Alan Zaremba of Hollywood reported good fishing for peacock and largemouth bass in the Lake Osborne system in Lake Worth, with hard jerkbaits worked aggressively catching most of the fish. Largemouths were biting big plastic worms and shaky head jigs fished on the ledges in the canals along Alligator Alley.
LAKE OKEECHOBEE: Friday is the best day to fish for bass. Look for the fish to bite swimbaits and jerkbaits in and around the grass. After the cold front arrives Friday night, flipping in those areas will be the best tactic.
THE KEYS: The reefs have been producing good catches of groupers and snappers, along with cero mackerel. The sailfish bite should be good after the cold front passes through.
