Mark Hopman, the former athletic director at Rich South High School in Richton Park, has been a highly respected employee of that school for many years. The manner in which he has been treated by the principal of that school and the board of education is nothing less than a disgrace. As a retired teacher, I have known teachers in that district, and they all seem to have one goal in common — get out.

The Rev. Martin Hunter, a great-uncle to Laquan McDonald, the kid who was shot 16 time by a Chicago police officer, now comes out of the woodwork, suddenly taking an interest in this boy’s life. Where was Hunter and other members of the teen’s family for years? Like his parents, they all disowned this kid years ago. Nobody other than his great-grandmother seemed to want anything to do with this kid. Because of the controversy over the shooting and the police video, now the family is concerned about Laquan and his death. What a bunch of hypocritical people.

If I shop on the Mag Mile and there is a protest going on that blocks the entry to a store, will the police defend my right to enter or just stand there being politically correct? How about my right as a citizen?

All I wanted for Christmas was that the term “politically correct” to cease to exist. A little boy in Texas offended his school’s “anti-violence” rules and was told he must cover up his new Star Wars T-shirt because it showed its characters holding their laser guns. Obviously, his parents were upset. I hope his parents sue the school district administration for its stupidity.

In regards to Mike from Orland Park saying the Catholic Church is negligent and not doing enough against street violence. I am not Catholic. I’m Lutheran, but the church’s doors are always open. There’s classes and there’s also Sunday school. How about putting some of this on the parents to get the kids to the church?

It seems that no matter what the Chicago police do in the black neighborhoods, they are wrong. Maybe they should just stay out. Let the protesters, ministers and other activists take care of all the problems.
I’m seeing in the newspaper that everybody wants Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to resign. Well, those people who want it are the same who could have worked to defeat him in the last city election last spring. Let him serve his four-year term. Then vote him out if you want.

No disrespect toward the Chicago Cubs, but I sincerely hope and pray that they don’t have the same season with all these high-priced baseball players that the Chicago White Sox had in 2015. That would be terrible. Both teams, year after year, are paying big bucks for nonperforming players. Good luck, Cubs.

We don’t need any immigrants who are here illegally in this country. We can’t properly take care of our veterans or the elderly in this country, but we’re spending money and tax dollars on immigrants who are here illegally and refugees? It’s ridiculous, and I’m with all these governors against Syrian refugees coming into their states.
