Gary police on Wednesday released surveillance photos from two December robberies they believe were committed by the same suspects.

Police spokeswoman Lt. Dawn Westerfield said the same group is responsible for “a rash of recent robberies,” including some in Griffith and Highland.

The surveillance photos show from two to four men entering the businesses. “In each incident, at least one suspect is armed with a handgun,” Westerfield said.

The suspects “work in teams,” she told the Post-Tribune.

On Dec. 20, robbers struck at the Family Dollar at Ridge Road east of Broadway in Gary. Then on Dec. 22, the same suspects robbed Advanced Auto in the 2300 block of Grant Street.

These crimes have occurred after 6 p.m. and before closing.

Sgt. Dan Callahan and members of the Violent Crimes Unit are investigating the robberies. Anyone with information is asked to call 219-881-1210.
