Edward Foundation awards nursing scholarships
The Edward Foundation has awarded $68,000 in nursing scholarships to 23 Edward Hospital employees who are pursuing a degree or advanced degree in nursing.
The foundation presented $10,000 Peter Veit Scholarships to Nilsa Ortiz, a registered nurse in Edward’s MRI department, and Kimberly Ponio, registered nurse in labor and delivery, both of whom are earning baccalaureate degrees in nursing.
Christine McBride, registered nurse in cardiac telemetry, received the $2,000 Agnes A. Book Memorial Nursing Scholarship.
The foundation also awarded 19 nurses and one patient care tech $2,000 scholarships. New Edward surgeons announced
Edward-Elmhurst Health has announced surgeons Dr. Lucio Pavone and Dr. Iris Seitz are now part of Edward’s plastic and reconstructive surgery department.
Pavone’s and Seitz’s offices are located in the Edward Cancer Center, 120 Spalding Drive, Suite 205, on the campus of Edward Hospital in Naperville.
Pavone does breast reconstruction, including advanced microsurgical techniques, skin cancer surgery, general reconstruction and cosmetic surgery of the face, breast and body.
Seitz’s specialties include aesthetic facial reconstruction and complex microsurgical reconstruction of the cranium, scalp and face, focusing on facial paralysis and complex facial deformities in both children and adults. She also does breast reconstruction, melanoma surgery and reconstruction, super microsurgical lymphatic reconstruction/lymph node transfer, peripheral nerve disorders, migraine surgery and cosmetic procedures.

Students participate in Feed the Needy project
Students at the Al-Falah Academy of the Islamic Center of Naperville along with Muslims Against Hunger and Hunger Van made 500 hot meals and delivered them to people living under bridges, at train stations and in homeless shelters in and around Chicago.
Students from kindergarten through high school and their teachers worked on the service project to create awareness about hunger, poverty and homelessness.
Kashif Fakhruddin, principal of Al-Falah Academy, said the project demonstrated values such as compassion, giving and empathy, which are taught as a part of a course called “Connections.”
