A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday night by a car driving on Route 173 in Antioch, despite a nearby nurse’s life-saving efforts, authorities said.

“A nurse was on the scene as a bystander, and she started doing CPR until the ambulance arrived,” said Chris Lienhardt, the Antioch Fire Department spokesman.

Lienhardt said the crash occurred at 5:17 p.m. near a shopping center at Route 173 and Deep Lake Road.

The person was struck while walking in the road between a shopping mall entrance and the intersection. The driver remained on the scene, Lienhardt said.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team was helping the Antioch Police Department in the investigation, he said.

Authorities did not identify the person who died. Antioch police officials weren’t immediately available.
