A Gary man arrested last week on charges stemming from a December shooting, is charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a former neighbor, court records state.
Davanta Horde, 20, is being held without bail at Lake County Jail in Crown Point. His bail status changed this week after Sgt. Michael Barnes obtained four new felony counts against Horde.
The victim, a 31-year-old man who told police Horde once lived near him in the city’s Brunswick section, said a man he knew came to his home Jan. 18. He told Barnes the man sometimes asked to use his phone. But before he could close and lock his door, Horde forced his way inside, the probable cause affidavit states. He told Barnes that Horde shot him in the neck, then fired several more times after he fell to the floor, the affidavit states. The victim said he had argued with Horde about five or six years ago, court records state.
Horde has been in custody since last week, initially on charges stemming from a shooting that occurred in December. After his arrest, Violent Crimes Unit Detective Sgt. William Fazekas obtained six counts of criminal recklessness against Horde for a separate Jan. 18 shooting. In that incident, witnesses told police that Horde shot into a home in the city’s Glen Park section occupied by six people, including children.
