I would like to comment on the list of best to worst communities to live in Illinois. But I will not. Those towns at the bottom of the list will never change until the residents demand change. But this, I see, will never happen in my lifetime.

Oak Forest

President Obama’s recent speech on gun control stimulated the economy big time. Arms manufacturer Smith & Wesson’s stock rose dramatically around then. Check it out. Thanks, Obama.

Jimbo, Chicago Heights

I was listening to all these people talk about what they were going to do if they won the $1.6 billion Powerball jackpot. Years ago, I said the first thing I would do if I ever won a jackpot like that would be to go to a photographer and have a picture made of myself. I would give it to all my relatives, because that’s the last time they would see me. Next, I would give it away to charity. A lot of people out there need money. These lottery games have officials profiting. They’re taking it easy. Everybody else’s money is trying for a dream-come-true. The officials’ dreams have come true because people are paying their retirement.

I agree with Sandy from Oak Lawn. It’s pretty bad when someone has to be afraid to take a shower in their own house in the middle of the day for fear of a break-in, or to be at work knowing that a potential robber may not be happy with the amount of money they get and shoot you anyway. Be aware at all times, people, and don’t think it can’t happen to you.

Diana, Oak Lawn

I read more about immigration and protests in the Hoy newspaper than in our daily papers and don’t understand how people come here illegally and get upset when they are deported. We have laws here.

Don, Chicago

Let’s see. We blame unemployment, the schools, the teachers, poverty, the Police Department and now guns. What about the real cause of these problems? It is the 400 or more gangs and the total loss of control in these neighborhoods. This total disrespect for life, property and any kind of authority is the real problem.

Orland Park

Why doesn’t Chicago Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz snub goalie Corey Crawford like the All-Star committee did? Let’s face it. Crawford’s time is up just like quarterback Jay Cutler with the Chicago Bears is. Crawford is getting slower and slower, and we need someone that can react faster than Crawford. I hope this is Corey Crawford’s last season. It would take a miracle for the Hawks to repeat a Stanley Cup win with Crawford.

Rock, Homer Glen

I don’t understand these people where these shootings are happening. The protesters of Laquan McDonald’s shooting destroyed our Christmas season. That’s all we saw was the police shooting one man, yet people are shooting many people. Why aren’t they protesting? Where’s the Rev. Michael Pfleger now? Why doesn’t he protest in those neighborhoods instead of disrupting the poor, innocent people shopping in Downtown Chicago? Why don’t you protest in the neighborhood where the shootings are happening? The police have only done a small amount. People have done many yet they’re not protesting this. That doesn’t make sense.

Sally, Chicago

We only have one more year left of this. President Obama’s wonderful idea of how to help this gun situation is putting restrictions on the honest people of America. Does he really think all these people doing the shooting are going to pay to register to get a weapon through proper channels? No, the only thing he’s going to bother is your everyday honest citizen who wants a gun for protection, and will have a longer procedure to get a gun. Do you think gangbangers, robbers and criminals are going through channels to register to get a gun? Come on. You need to get the illegal guns off the street. That’s the idea, not to harass the everyday honest citizens.
