Morton Grove readers have just over a week left to participate in this year’s adult and teen winter reading challenge.

The theme for this year’s challenge is, “Read a Latte,” with participants receiving a travel mug for the first four books completed and rated the books on the program bookmark.

“The bookmark then goes into our drawing for one of two Kindle e-readers that will be selected at the end of the program,” Megan Rosol, adult services librarian for the Morton Grove Public Library, said. “The bookmark for teens and the bookmark for adults are different colors, so we’ll have one drawing for the adult patrons and one for the teen patrons.”

According to Rosol, the program has been popular since it began in early January, with people coming in to claim their mugs. For every bookmark completed after the first, patrons increase their chances of winning the e-reader.

But patrons do not have to sit down and simply read their books of choice. Rosol said that regardless of format—whether an actual book, an e-book or even an audiobook—all books count for this reading challenge.

“We just want to encourage people to continue reading,” she said. “Reading makes it possible for us to live alternative lives, see different stories and be entertained while learning; there are just so many reasons to read depending on the patron and what kind of books they choose to read.”

The program runs through Feb. 14 and is open to adult and teen Morton Grove Public Library patrons.
