Best meet: The football standout is the state’s Class 3A No. 1-ranked wrestler at 285 pounds and won the Illini Classic at Lincoln-Way East Jan. 16 with a 3-2 win over the Griffins’ Sammy Diehl. That win raised Allen’s record to 27-1.

Best meet: Avery pinned Charlie Cadel of Christian Brothers (Missouri) in 1:15 to win the 182-pound title Jan. 23 at the Oak Park-River Forest Invitational. Avery (28-7) was the meet’s only winner for runner-up Lyons (190 points).

School: Nazareth
Sport: Wrestling
Best meet: The Roadrunners’ top wrestler placed second at the Lisle Invitational Jan. 16. Bilek, a backup linebacker from the state championship football team, lost 5-2 to Grant Park’s Daniel McNally at 170 pounds in the eight-team meet. He was Nazareth’s top finisher at the meet.

Best meet: Nowak won her second major all-around title in as many meets this month with a win at the Neuqua Valley Invitational (37.45) Jan. 16. Nowak also won titles on the vault and uneven bars. Previously, she won the all-around at the Sandburg Invitational Jan. 9.
