When did Republicans become the party of No Government rather than the party of Small Government? Illinois has a Republican governor who refuses to govern. Earlier this month, the Republican chairmen of the U.S. Senate and House budget committees refused to allow the president’s budget director to testify at their budget hearings — something that has never happened in modern times. Last week, Republican senators vowed to stonewall a U.S. Supreme Court nomination before it’s even made. And the Republican race for the presidential nomination is a race to the bottom to see which candidate can trump Trump in outlandish statements.

Every other day brings fresh news of some new Republican temper tantrum — and further evidence that before you can govern a state or nation you should be able to govern yourself.
