This is in support of the Talk of the County comment that the City of Zion is a mess. It’s a disgrace. Drive through our city and you will see garbage in the streets, tree limbs and branches and uncollected leaves from last fall. And don’t even attempt to drive through the alleys — they are a true health hazard. Now that the recycling centers are being closed for electronics, I can’t even imagine what the city will look like. Stop spending money tearing down the Dunes Theatre and the lumberyard. Take that money and clean up the city we have. We won’t attract any new investments to a city that has become a living garbage dump.
Riled about Republican Party
The Republican Party trying to stop Donald Trump’s potential nomination is totally sickening. This is a perfect example of why the political system in the United States is broken — there can be no ifs, ands or buts. This is a fact, and it keeps getting worse every year. Tell me which politician from the Republican or Democratic Party is not a con man. They are showing what they really think of the American people, which is basically nothing. You may hate Donald Trump, but if the people decide he should be nominated then he should be nominated. The same goes for Hillary Clinton. Are they all con men? Yes, they are. You’re not fooling me.
Republican hurdles for front-runners
For those Republicans who are disillusioned and want to leave the party, one can hardly blame you. The Republican Party has chosen during the last three elections to discredit and destroy their own front-runner while apparently believing that people don’t know what is best for them. They pick apart the person who is leading in the polls. This pretty much resulted in Democratic wins and probably will again.
Burning ordinance
The Village of Winthrop Harbor ordinance says you can no longer burn leaves, but you can burn clean wood. I own acreage and have about 100 fruit trees that need to be pruned. I only have one way to get rid of the wood, and it’s not against the law. People need to check the ordinance before they start complaining.
Rising gas prices
Has anybody noticed that gas has gone up 80 cents in two weeks? Somebody needs to step in there and stop this. Wake up and see what’s going on.
Proper respect was shown
People who criticize President Barack Obama for not attending Nancy Reagan’s funeral don’t get it. Nancy Reagan was the First Lady from 1981 to 1989. Obama was in high school at that time. They didn’t know each other. She had a great life and rose to prominence. The president has important business to attend. If he did go to the funeral, it would cost the taxpayers a great deal of money and it would shut down the airport and roadways in that area. People would be upset. The president sent a representative to the funeral out of respect, and that’s how it should be.
Garbage dump
I would like to say something about garbage haulers not being able to take televisions or other electronics anymore. This doesn’t make a lot of sense because people will find some way to get them in the dump.
