The Bulls turned in a truly dreadful third quarter and their comeback attempt fell short in a 115-107 loss to the Knicks on Wednesday night at the United Center. The loss, coupled with the Pistons’ victory, dropped them one game out of playoff position. Kristaps Porzingis’ career-high 29 points and 24 from Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks, who shot 56 percent from 3-point range. Nikola Mirotic’s career-high 35 points also featured a career-high nine 3-pointers, while Derrick Rose added 21 points.

Turning point: The third quarter. The Knicks sank seven of their first eight shots and outscored the Bulls 35-18 in the period.

Tribune player of game: Porzingis. He posted his first double-double since Kurt Rambis took over for Derek Fisher as coach.

Key number: 19. The Knicks outrebounded the Bulls 53-34.
