Our book club: St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Book Club.

Our meetings: Our book club meets once a month at our church and we have lively discussions about books. We have been meeting for about 12 years, and we enjoy our friendship. Our choice of books are made by the group and include fiction and nonfiction.

We liked: “Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax (Mrs. Pollifax Series)” by Dorothy Gilman, “The Day the World Came to Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland” by Jim DeFede, “The Ladies of Covington Send Their Love: A Novel” by Joan Medlicott, “Nowhere to Run (A Joe Pickett Novel)” by C. J. Box, “The White Cascade: The Great Northern Railway Disaster and America’s Deadliest Avalanche” by Gary Krist.

We didn’t like: “Back Roads” by Tawni O’Dell, “Paris Match” by Stuart Woods.

What makes us unique: What is unusual about our club is we order all books from our local library, so that no one needs to buy the books. Then each person returns their own book to the library. We plan seasonal luncheons and sometimes have coffee and homemade desserts at the meetings. There are some months we do not meet, one being at Christmas. Everyone is so busy, but at this holiday time, each member can pick up a book of their choice.

Author we’d like to meet: Joan Medlicott. She writes such charming stories about Covington Cove and her ladies’ experiences. Where does she get her stories or does she experience them?

Up next: “Home: A Memoir of My Early Years” by Julie Andrews.
