A 93-year-old Aurora man died after his minivan collided with an SUV near Sugar Grove, police said.

About 12:40 p.m., Peter Mickle, 93, was traveling west in his Chrysler minivan on Hankes Road west of Windsor Court, according to a news release from the Kane County sheriff’s office. For an unknown reason, he crossed the center line and struck a Mazda SUV driven by a 49-year-old woman from Sugar Grove, who was driving east.

There were no passengers in either vehicle and both drivers were taken to Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora.

Mickle, of the first block of Cedar Gate Circle in Aurora, died at the hospital.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and no tickets had been issued as of Sunday evening. Hankes Road was closed until about 4 p.m. while the crash was investigated.
