I see another commenter’s trying to give Gov. Bruce Rauner credit for trying to change. All he’s trying to change are rules to make us another right-to-work state. China has been ripping off Wisconsin jobs now faster than they did before, and Wisconsin had the same rule changes there. Unions are not what’s ruining the United States anymore. What’s ruining the United States is we’re losing jobs at the fastest pace we’ve ever seen in the history of the United States. The North American Free Trade Agreement, though needed, is not helping us because we don’t have enough trade. That is the problem, but also retooling is needed. We need jobs. Then our tax problems would go away.

Even more about James E. Gierach, of Palos Park’s letter to the editor about legalizing drugs: There was so much cannabis or marijuana growing in the farmlands. They used to grow it legally during World War II. This is all a bunch of malarkey. This is just moneymaking and crime-producing control to leave the drugs illegal. People should take another look at this and really think about legalizing drugs. It’s not a joke anymore. It would save the country millions of dollars and thousands of people that die because of drug overdoses. Gierach has been on this kick for a long time. I’ve always agreed with him. It’s time the rest of the country starts taking a look at it.

I have a moral objection to the game of football. It is violent, causes needless injury to players, wastes spectators’ time and society’s financial resources, and encourages drunkenness among male fans and immodest dress among female entertainers. I plan to send my children to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to study medicine and engineering. How can I be sure that not one penny of my tuition and tax dollars are used to fund this wicked, human-invented, resource-waster, including $21 million to fund head football coach Lovie Smith?
I’m a concerned citizen. Is Cook County kidding? They want to put a 4 percent sales tax on gasoline to promote a new jobs program. They’re taxing us to death. We have the highest taxes in the country. Now that gas prices have gone down, they want to start taxing our gas. This is ridiculous. You’re forcing people to leave Cook County and the state with high taxes. How about having people learn to be decent human beings, get rid of guns, have the parents involved and get kids straightened out? Maybe we should start enforcing the death penalty again. Quit taxing the innocent people of Cook County. You’re forcing us all out, but making it better for bad people.

In response to the letter to the editor by David E. Smith of the Illinois Family Institute: You think that your religious beliefs and values somehow transcend federal or state laws. Last time I checked, this is still America and your beliefs are your own, but they do not allow you to discriminate against me or anyone else just because you don’t like the gay lifestyle. Families now come in all different sizes and are not just traditional man, woman and child. Wake up. It’s 2016, like it or not.

Why are these people in Springfield, these politicians even getting a salary? Why? They’re doing nothing. This thing has been a stalemate long enough. There are $8 billion worth of bills sitting there that have not been paid. It’s a disgrace how Illinois has gone down, down, down, down. Who do you blame? The politicians. Who do you blame? House Speaker Michael Madigan. He spent 30 years standing there doing nothing. He gets a fat salary and a fat, fat, fat pension. He’s a disgrace. He should be impeached. Get rid of this bum.
