SOUTH FLORIDA OFFSHORE: Dolphin fishing has been excellent. “The dolphin bite is unbelievable,” said Capt. Chris Lemieux of Boynton Beach. “All big fish in 100-300 feet.” “It was good all week long,” said Capt. Mario Cote¿ of No Vacansea, who live-baited north of Port Everglades Inlet. “I caught all mine in 500-200 feet, some on the kite and a lot on the weighted lines. All of them 15-25 pounds.” Cote¿ also had blackfin tunas of 20 and 28 pounds on the kite and said a lot of hammerhead sharks were around, along with a few sailfish. Kingfish have been scarce.
THE KEYS: Richard Stanczyk of Bud N’ Mary’s Marina in Islamorada said the dolphin bite is picking up, with most boats finding fish. Yellowtail snappers were biting on the reef.
SOUTH FLORIDA INSHORE: “Before the last front, tarpon fishing was just awesome,” said Capt. Jason Sullivan, who caught the tarpon in front of Flamingo using flies and DOA Baitbusters. “On the Gulf coast, there are pods and pods of tarpon moving through.”
EVERGLADES/FRESHWATER: Capt. Alan Zaremba of Hollywood said peacock bass were biting jigs and flies in urban canals. The best largemouth bass fishing has been in the canals at Sawgrass Recreation Park. The other day, one of his anglers caught and released 270 bass up to 3 pounds in the east canal using Bagley Minnows, Gambler Flapp’n Shads and Gambler ribbontail worms.
LAKE OKEECHOBEE: Lots of bass were biting plastic frogs and topwater plugs all around the lake.
