The annual Elgin Pet Expo is set for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin.
At this year’s event, 31 vendors are scheduled to attend, including boarding providers, groomers, veterinarians, pet supply companies, pet treat companies, and animal rescue and adoption agencies. The event includes door prizes and police K-9 demos, and McGruff the Crime Dog will be there to visit with the kids. The expo is free and open to the public.
As part of the event, the city of Elgin is hosting its pet vaccination clinic from 1 to 4 p.m. at the same location. Elgin residents can have their pets vaccinated, tested for heartworm and microchipped at discounted prices.
This is the third Elgin Pet Expo and by far the largest yet, said Elgin Animal Control Officer Matt Ciesielczyk. Elgin has also offered the vaccination clinics for several years. The $50 package includes rabies vaccines, Kane or Cook county tags, pet registration and booster shots for pets. Microchipping and heartworm tests are also available for an additional fee.
