Several hundred people helped raise tens of thousands of dollars on May 14 to benefit Family Service of Glencoe at the Glencoe Under The Stars: Derby at Dusk fundraiser at the Skokie Country Club.

“I love it, it’s so fun,” Sheilah Burnham, past president of the organization, said of the annual event. “Family Service of Glencoe is such an important safety net.”

For more than 100 years, FSG has supported families and individuals 24 hours a day with confidential services to prevent and treat emotional and psychological challenges. The organization sometimes works with those in crisis situations, and many using their services pay on a sliding scale instead of paying full fees.

“If we did not subsidize their care, they probably would not receive care,” said Nicole Hayek, president of the FSG board of directors.

On Saturday, women donned colorful oversized hats to match the evening’s horse racing theme. Even men wore hats.

“I love the theme,” said Jenn Lussnig. “Every year, they top themselves.”

“It’s fabulous,” Elaine Duckler, event chair, said. “It’s been a great evening.”

The event included dinner, and live and silent auctions.

“At its heart, Glencoe is a small town,” said Jason Wadler, who attended Derby at Dusk with his wife, Lisa. “We are all lucky to have Family Service of Glencoe to support our children.”
