Melanie Fyda, volleyball. Senior at Loyola.
Fyda, one of the September winners, is a right-side hitter and helped the Ramblers reach the SuperSectional championship against Glenbard West. Fyda earned a Pioneer Press all-area girls volleyball honorable mention, and committed to play volleyball at Massachusetts-Boston.

Adam Masters, soccer. Senior at Evanston Township.
Masters, one of the September winners, had five saves and recorded his third consecutive shutout in a 3-0 win over Lake Forest Academy to help the Wildkits to a 3-0-1 start to the season. He then made a dramatic penalty-kick shutout save against Niles West Sept. 12 to preserve the Wildkits’ shutout streak. Evanston made it to the SuperSectional round of the playoffs.

Louise McCulloch, golf. Senior at New Trier.
McCulloch, one of the September winners, was the medalist in four of the team’s first five matches of the season. She shot matching 77s for a 10-over 154 to tie for ninth at the Class AA state tournament — the best finish in her prep career. McCulloch was one of two seniors who helped the Trevians finish fifth overall, and is a Northwestern recruit.

Emma Vickery, golf. Junior at Glenbrook North.
Vickery, the October winner and the No. 2 player in the lineup, shot a season-best 5-over 77 at the CSL girls golf tournament Sept. 30 to lead the Spartans to second place with a 336, one stroke behind conference champion New Trier. At the Class AA state tournament, she tied for 26th place after carding rounds of 83-78 (161). She also plays lacrosse.

Josh Derrick, cross country. Senior at New Trier.
Derrick, the November winner, won the CSL South boys cross country championship, a regional title and finished second at the Class 3A sectional at Lake Park in a time of 15 minutes, 18.97 seconds to qualify for his first state meet, where he placed 15th with a time of 14 minutes, 42 seconds. “Josh has figured it out, and his turnaround this year has been amazing,” said New Trier coach Dave Wisner.

Lucy Hogan, diving. Freshman at Evanston Township.
Hogan, the December winner, had a memorable first season in high school. She scored 463.15 points at the state meet and placed second. She also took second at the Glenbrook North Sectional.

Liz Satter, basketball. Senior at Loyola.
Satter, the February winner, helped the Ramblers earn the fifth seed in the Class 4A New Trier Sectional, making it through to the Regional final. She averaged 17.0 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists this season, and made 54 3-pointers. Satter was named all-area girls basketball first team and committed to play basketball at Pennsylvania next season. “She grew so much as a player, but she’s much more than that,” Schoenecker said. “She’s funny, considerate and a fantastic student. She’s been like a big sister to the younger girls, too. She was always making sure everybody was diong the right thing.”

David Rivera-Kohr, wrestling. Senior at Evanston Township.
Rivera-Kohr, the March winner, concluded his career with the most wins in program history, finishing with 166 victories. Rivera-Kohr went 42-4 as a senior and reached the Class 3A state meet at 126 pounds. “He had a huge impact on our team. What he did was infectious. Kids want to be like him,” Evanston coach Rudy Salinas said.

Brad Garron, track and field. Junior at Evanston Township.
Garron, the April winner, finished third in the 200 meters in Class 3A at the Illinois Top Times indoor invitational on March 26. His time of 22.49 seconds was a personal record. At the Red Grange Invitational at Wheaton Warrenville South April 22, Garron finished first in the 400-meter dash, 10th in the 100-meter dash and second in the 200-meter dash.
