A 12-year-old South Haven boy is in stable condition at a local hospital after a tree he was leaning on was struck by lightning during heavy storms Thursday.

The incident occurred at 1:50 p.m. at Pleasant Valley mobile home park on McCool Road, said Tina Nabhan, assistant chief for EMS at the South Haven Fire Department.

“We believe a tree was hit by lightning and he was leaning on the tree,” she said. “He’s a very lucky little boy.”
