A 38-year-old Round Lake Beach man is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol after police say he drove his truck into a local residence Friday night just around the corner from his own.

Jorge Verger of the 800 block of Buena Vista Drive was charged with DUI, no valid driver’s license and improper lane usage, according to Deputy Chief Michael Scott.

Scott said the crash happened just before 10 p.m. Friday as Verger was driving northbound in the 1300 block of Brentwood Drive when he swerved around something in the street.

The Round Lake Fire Department responded to the 1300 block of Brentwood Drive on Friday, Sept. 23, after a pickup truck drove into a house.

“He over-corrected and went off the roadway. He tried to get back on the roadway and ended up losing control,” Scott said. Verger’s 2000 Chevrolet Silverado spun and headed southbound in a yard, through a hedge and into a fence before striking the house. A section of fence hit a neighbor’s car and damaged it, he said.

“He nearly got the whole truck inside,” Scott said.

No one was home at the time, and the building department has been notified to check the structure to see if the family can live in the house during repairs.
