About one of your Quickly comments about people being semiretired and sleeping late, like 9 or 10 in the morning. That’s so petty. What’s wrong with sleeping late if you’re semiretired?

The Chicago Bears got their savior in head coach John Fox. There’s four teams in the National Football Conference North division. The Bears are going to be lucky if they finish fourth. There’s a fifth position that’s called left out. That’s what the Bears are going to be this season. To dump the all-time leading scorer, placekicker Robbie Gould, to pick up Connor Barth, some other guy you had in the Denver Broncos? You threw away somebody that’s been dependable for 11 years. He’s probably the only one that was going to score for you.

Don’t forget that the United States first invaded and occupied Iraq under former President George W. Bush. The U.S. Congress including then-U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton authorized the invasion. Barack Obama, then an Illinois senator, did not agree and warned an invasion of Iraq would fan the flames of the Middle East. It’s become more complicated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and other militant groups representing extreme views on jihad and against the West and our ways.

From reading some of the Quickly comments, it is clear that a review of a basic Government 101 class is needed.

Why do the tax returns of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump bother you? On Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s 96 percent of the money that she gave charities went into her own Clinton Foundation. Tax returns don’t mean anything when it comes to being president of the United States. Getting rid of the militant group the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria does. Securing our borders does.

On Sept. 2 in the newspaper people showed their cats. It said you don’t get anything out of it financially, just the satisfaction of knowing the ultimate feeling when a cat gets into the finals and wins. That’s what I’ve been explaining about 4-H fairs at the Crown Point and Valparaiso fairgrounds and the other ones. Kids that are taught to take care of a goat, rooster, pig, sheep or cow won a ribbon. They prance the animals around inside a pen so people can bid on them so they can sell the animals and make money. Then the animals are butchered. If they’re being taught respect for the animal, the best respect is to not have the animal killed.

Why can’t they invent a football helmet to prevent concussions? They can send a man to the moon but everybody’s still getting concussions.

Oftentimes a bill is introduced in the Senate or House of Representatives, but more has been added or tacked on before it is voted on. When a legislator refuses to vote or votes “no,” it can simply mean that he or she objects to it becoming law the way that it is written. The main premise may be great but the bill is compromised and can’t be supported when questionable or sneaky verbiage is added, changing the meaning, intent or results. Then how can a lawmaker vote “yes” with a clear conscience?

No we cannot “just get along.” Much of this was begun by the atheistic secularists, now known as the ACLU, the Freedom From Religion group, the Beatnicks, then the Hippies, free love, the radical movement into the drug culture, & the watering down of the college professors, who influenced the minds of our judges. No more firm base in life, just do your own thing.

Words for your wisdom: Freedom is an interactive yet peaceful state of being; while happiness is an interactive choice, and state of feeling.

Donald Trump may not have started the birther movement, but he certainly spoke about it every time he had a chance for years.

It would be nice if either the city of Hobart and/or the landlord of the Crossings of Hobart did something to stop people from panhandling. It does not make for a nice shopping experience.
