I’d like to thank the Merrillville Police Department. On Sept. 1st at 7:45 in the morning when I fell in the front yard a police officer just drove by and waved at me. Thank God for the wonderful neighbors because I have a broken knee.

When being quick to cast blame on public officials, I think many commenters don’t understand and are oversimplifying processes, procedures and consequences. The business of running a government is complex and complicated whether on a local, state or national level and shouldn’t be entrusted to amateurs or hotheads.

I saw that once again this year the city of Hobart is allowing the people with little boats to race them on Lake George for the Clock Tower Power Model Boat Race. If you care about the fish, ducks and general welfare of the lake, you’ll be shocked by how much oil, gas and exhaust the boats pump out. It’s 10 times beyond terrible. Is this the best the city can do?

Some of the blame in the rise of the militant group the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and its attacks in France, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Holland and the Middle East should go to the Internet and its easy recruitment of and influence on disenfranchised, easily misled and often unknowledgeable young people.

I’m being serious now. Put down that cup of coffee. Put down that newspaper and really think, “Who should I vote for to be our next president of this here United States? Does my vote really matter? Does it really matter who gets into office?” You know it doesn’t. I know it doesn’t so quit fooling yourself, please.

Why isn’t Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump being investigated for his crimes, Trump University and his ties to the Russians and to the Ukraine? Maybe he’s being financed by the Russians. Why doesn’t Donald Trump release his tax returns? The audit excuse carries no water. It’s ridiculous. The corporate media gives Donald Trump a free pass every time but they’ll keep checking Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, like the Republicans with their silly email investigation of her private servers. The Republicans can’t govern so they have to always look in the closets of people. Maybe the Republicans should look in the mirror at themselves. They’re a bunch of scoundrels.

When Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump went to Louisiana, what was the point other than a photo opportunity? Did he bring any water or food on the airplane? Did he write a check to help anybody? We watched him and vice presidential running mate Mike Pence help unload a truck. What good did Trump do? That’s looking presidential, I assume. I don’t get the point.

I am 80 years old and I walk with a cane. I cannot tell you how many times people of all ages and of all races have opened doors for me, stopped their car to let me pass, taken back the shopping cart or have shown me some other kindness. There are a lot of wonderful, wonderful people out there and I thank them with all my heart.

Indiana ranks 38th out of 50 states in wages. Gee, thank you, former Gov. Mitch Daniels, Gov. Mike Pence and the Republican Party, for keeping wages low and keeping us in poverty. That’s Republicanism at its core. Keep the people down. Keep them in poverty so they can’t rise up on you corporate hacks and Republicans.

Mike Pence wants to be like Dick Cheney (who had a 13% approval rating when he left office). The governor is on his way there.

For the first time in almost a century, the Cincinnati Enquirer endorsed a Democrat for President, calling Trump “a clear and present danger to America”. All 5 living Presidents, the only ones who know what it takes, just called Trump unqualified for the job.

When John Gregg gets elected this fall, Indiana won’t be settling for anything. He will bring change and the improvements this state sorely needs. Maybe he can fix some of the mess Pence has created.
