Aggressive squirrels: This is a nature concern. Does anyone know the reason why groundhogs and squirrels have been so aggressive this season? Groundhogs have dug in my flower beds and pots. They have eaten up my plants. Squirrels have dug holes in my grass. You can hardly keep up with it. I’ve heard from many people who have experienced the same problem.
Bathroom advice: My thing is about the St. Charles High School where students are only allowed to go to the bathroom three times in a quarter. That’s good. When you get out into the working world, you can’t stop and go to the bathroom whenever you want to if you’re a machine operator, a teacher, a pilot or a doctor doing surgery. Why not train the kids now? Learn to control their bodily functions. It only makes sense.
Give salary increase to seniors: I was reading about Linda Chapa LaVia saying she wouldn’t accept a raise. You can give it to the seniors. They need funds to get things done. I don’t know if I’m hearing Linda or Michael Madigan putting words in her mouth. If you vote for Linda, you vote for Madigan. He put the state down, and Linda will do that to Aurora.
Kudos to Chapa LaVia: I think it’s very gracious that Linda Chapa LaVia wants to give up her raise. I don’t believe the other candidates are making anywhere near what she made or collected in Chicago, but that’s beside the point. She figures if she gives it up, everyone else will. She made the best suggestion yet about only serving two terms. Hallelujah! These people in politics make a career out of it, and they never change. They never open their minds to new things. They just keep running things the same way, and the same way doesn’t work. If something is broken, you have to fix it once in a while. As far as the raises, that was a good idea also, except it should be equal pay for everyone.
Sad situation: I love living in the United States these days. We don’t honor the American flag. We steal from and kill our neighbors. We use profanity frequently. We live off the government for our daily needs and use our personal money for luxuries. Guns are increasingly used for killing people, and more people are using habitual drugs. Our forests are growing up into weeds, and our neighborhoods are unsafe for children to play outdoors. Churches are empty because people no longer believe in God. We should be very proud of ourselves. It’s no wonder immigrants want to come to our country. You can do anything that is illegal and immoral. You can go to prison and then be released to commit more crimes. What has happened to our country? I personally blame our government, the media, our lack of adhering to our laws, corporate America and our electronic world that allows anyone to steal information. We are in a very sad situation these days.
Concern about college: Let’s talk about money. Elgin Community College President (David) Sam is doing it again. He’s straining his arm by patting himself on the back over the ECC police and fire training center in Burlington. It has new state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. Three months ago, Sam and the ECC board eliminated the senior exemptions for nearly all the lifetime taxpaying seniors. In the past, they supported ECC’s growth with their property taxes. Sam’s reason is ECC doesn’t have enough money to pay the bills. Seniors only fill classroom chairs that would otherwise be empty. They pay class fees, so how is that saving money? Senior exemptions cost the college nothing. I think we need new leadership at ECC. Just this spring, President Sam applied to work at College of DuPage. Does Sam care about ECC? He was ready to dump us. We need new blood.
Perturbed about park district: Did everyone read those comments about our poor little Fox Valley Park District? He is saying that either taxes or user fees must be raised. Was he joking? Has this director and the out-of-touch board seriously reduced expenses by cutting luxurious salaries and pensions, privatizing grass cutting and grounds, and hiring out janitorial and maintenance work? Why does the Park District need its own police force? Whenever there is a problem, they can call the police from the village or county. There are private security firms that put up locked gates for a fraction of the cost. Many of the executives at the Park District are paid over $100,000. The Park District is also known for its army of trucks, chippers and people sitting on grass mowers. Before asking me to pay higher taxes, reduce the bloated work force, sell off some of the equipment and get with the times. If you can’t, find another line of work. We can no longer afford you.
