A 26-year-old man has been charged with bringing heroin into the Kendall County jail when he turned himself in for sentencing, according to sheriff’s reports.
Amos A. Martinez, 26, of the 0-99 block of Poplar Drive, Yorkville, turned himself into the jail in Yorkville for sentencing at 11 p.m. Saturday. Corrections deputies transporting Martinez to a holding cell saw him place something in his mouth, according to sheriff’s reports. The items were described in reports as white, rock like substances. They later field tested positive for heroin, according to reports.
Martinez was then charged with possession of a controlled substance and bringing contraband into a penal institution.
Martinez allegedly destroyed some of the evidence by stomping on the white substance and was also charged with obstructing justice, according to reports. He is currently in the jail with bail set at $50,000, records show. He is next scheduled to appear before Judge Timothy McCann at 9 a.m. Nov. 4 in Room 113 at the Kendall County courthouse in Yorkville.
Martinez was convicted in 2015 in Kendall County of domestic battery involving physical contact, records show. In that case, he was sentenced to 120 days in county jail plus 12 months’ probation, records show. This September, a violation of criminal sentence order was filed in the case, records show. He is next scheduled to appear for that case at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 7 in Room 114 of the courthouse.
His other past Kendall County convictions include misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and felony obstructing evidence.
In 2001 in Kane County, Martinez was convicted of receiving, possessing or selling a stolen vehicle and was sentenced to 100 days in county jail plus 30 months’ probation and 80 hours of public service, records show.
His other past Kane County convictions include resisting a peace officer, marijuana possession and retail theft.
