Volunteers needed to sort, pack care packages for soldiers
Supplies 4 The GI’s is seeking volunteers to sort and pack items for care packages to send to soldiers deployed overseas. Volunteers are needed at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday to sort the items, and they will be needed at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday to package the items. Express Enrollment Day at Ivy Tech
To ease the process of registration, Ivy Tech Community College will host Express Enrollment Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 at each of their area campuses: 410 E. Columbus Dr., East Chicago; 1440 E. 35th Ave., Gary; 3714 Franklin Drive, Michigan City; and 3100 Ivy Tech Drive, Valparaiso. Habitat for Humanity dedication ceremony
Habitat for Humanity Porter County, along with community leaders, supporters and homeowner families, will celebrate the completion of construction on a new three-bedroom home at a dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. Nov. 19 at 5300 Mulberry Ave., Portage. Through financial donations, materials and volunteer labor, Habitat for Humanity Porter County built the home, which will be purchased for an affordable price by a family who has contributed a minimum of 500 hours working on the construction. PNW Odyssey Arts screening
The movie, “A Hologram for the King,” will be shown at 2 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Michigan City Public Library, 100 E. Fourth St., Michigan City. Toy and model train show
A two-day train show will be from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 26 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 27 at the Lake County Fairgrounds, 889 S. Court St., Crown Point. Open to the public, the show is $5 per person, free for those under 18. The event will feature all gauges of model and toy trains, and Santa will be on hand for photos. Motown vs. Chi-Town exhibit
South Shore Arts presents Motown vs. Chi-Town: The Indiana Connection through Jan. 29 at The Center for Visual and Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster. Curated by the Chicago Blues Museum, the exhibit traces the Chicago music scene of the 1950s through 1970s, its ties to Detroit’s Motown Records, and the company’s early beginnings in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood and Gary’s Vee-Jay Records.
