Desmond Cain, one of Illinois’ top receivers as a freshman before seeing reduced playing time this past season, announced Thursday on Twitter that he is transferring.

“After talking it over with my family it’s best to move closer home to finish off my next few years in college!” Cain posted on his Twitter account. “Thank you Illini! Has been amazing these two years I’ve been here and thank you all for the major support GO ILLINI!”

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Cain, from Delray Beach, Fla., had a strong freshman season in 2015, finishing second on the team with 53 catches and third with 492 yards while playing in all 12 games and making five starts.

Limited by a knee injury this year, he played in only five games and had five catches for 61 yards.
