Northwestern guard Scottie Lindsey finished his basketball week Sunday by posting 22 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals during a blowout victory against Iowa.
On Monday, he was named Big Ten Player of the Week.
The 6-foot-5 junior, a Fenwick graduate, averaged 18 points, 7.5 rebounds, three assists and two steals in his last two games, both victories.
It is the first time Lindsey has earned the award, and he is the first Northwestern player to do so since Alex Olah in November 2015.
Lindsey had a steal followed by a basket on consecutive possessions during Sunday’s 89-54 win at Welsh-Ryan Arena, the second of which was an emphatic dunk after which Lindsey raised his arms to pump up the fans.
“This game was very fun for us — to shoot like that, to defend like that,” Lindsey said. “That dunk was very fun and I was glad the crowd was into it.”
Lindsey leads the 15-4 Wildcats in scoring and is seventh in the Big Ten at 15.8 points per game. He has scored at least 10 points in all 19 games this season, the longest such streak to start a season since Evan Eschmeyer did it the first 24 games of the 1998-99 season.
