A Joliet man who last year admitted to the 2014 robberies of banks in Bolingbrook and Orland Park has been sentenced to 29 years in prison, the U.S. attorney in Chicago said in a news release.
Carl Wilson, 28, shot at a bank employee and a customer of the First Midwest Bank branch at 11200 W. 143rd St. during the Oct. 13, 2014 robbery, according to the release on Tuesday.
During the robbery of Bolingbrook First Midwest in August of that year, a bank teller was shot in the arm and injured, according to the release.
Wilson last February pleaded guilty to the Orland Park robbery and was sentenced Jan. 12, according to court records.
He entered the bank wearing a dark hood over his head and a dark cloth draped across his face and displayed a handgun, according to the news release.
He jumped over the teller counter and yelled “give me the (expletive) money!” according to the release.
As a teller went to retrieve cash, Wilson fired his gun, narrowly missing her, then shot at a customer who was walking into the bank, barely missing him, according to the release.
Wilson pocketed $20,000, and after jumping back over the counter, exclaimed “have a great (expletive) day!” while waving his gun in the air, according to the release.
In his plea agreement with prosecutors, Wilson admitted to having ingested the drug PCP prior to committing the robbery.
Wilson, who had an account at the bank, was arrested nine days later after a traffic stop in Joliet, according to the release.
He had pleaded guilty to one count of armed bank robbery, one count of discharging a firearm during the Orland Park robbery and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the release.
Tinley Park attorney Stephen Eberhardt filed a notice with the court that he plans to appeal Wilson’s sentence to the U.S. Court of Appeals.
