Glencoe resident Luke Adrian is a hedge fund manager who worked for 17 years as a floor trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He and his wife, Laura, have a son, Hayden, 7.
Q: Why did you make the career switch?
A: When the floor started to become more computerized, it became a matter of what to do next. I knew trading and I wanted to help people make money.
Q: What do you enjoy about your work?
A: I enjoy when the months are good, I hate when the months are bad. I like talking to my customers. I like talking to my clients so I want to make them money.
Q: How does your hedge fund stand out?
A: The difference between my hedge fund and most hedge funds is that I come from the futures industry. We have what is called a principal protected hedge fund, so I am looking at people who want to save their nest egg and still make money.
Q: What would you be doing if you weren’t in the financial world?
A: If I wasn’t in the financial world, I would possibly be in the restaurant industry because I am a people person. I like talking with people. I’m a customer service guy in the hedge fund industry.
Q: What kind of restaurant could you see yourself operating?
A: I’m of Greek heritage. My mom was an incredible cook, so I learned everything from her.
Q: Is there an area of the world that you would like to go to, and why?
A: Italy. Because I have never been there and I love Italian food. That is the ultimate to me.
