A 26-year-old North Aurora man has been charged with having a highly potent form of heroin while an inmate at the Kane County Jail, according to sheriff’s office and court records.
Prosecutors have charged Kelley E. Dunn Jr. with possession of a controlled substance inside a penal institution and possession of less than 15 grams of heroin in connection to a late-December shakedown of his cell.
Three small baggies containing a brown powdery substance, which later tested positive for fentanyl-laced heroin, were found under Dunn’s mattress, court documents state.
The search of Dunn’s cell occurred Dec. 31, one day after he was booked on a warrant for missing court on driving with a suspended license and misdemeanor obstruction charges, according to court records and the sheriff’s office. He was released Jan. 11, but then arrested again Feb. 4 in the drug possession case.
Dunn remains held on $17,500 bail with a court appearance scheduled Feb. 16. Dunn’s criminal history includes arrests in recent years on burglary, battery and drug charges, records show.
