History of Garfield Farm Museum restoration
Garfield Farm Museum will present the history of the restoration of buildings at the farm Sunday. The talk is the second in a seven-part series of lectures to be held during the museum’s 40th anniversary year.
Garfield Farm Executive Director Jerome Johnson will present the lecture.
In the mid-1970s when Elva Ruth Garfield was looking for a way to preserve her family’s historic farmstead as a museum, eight structures from 1842 to 1913 needed renovation. Today, over 27 edifices have been constructed or renovated, farm officials said.
The talk will highlight the decision process and methods used to prioritize the buildings’ stabilization, preservation, restoration or rehabilitation. Various buildings are currently in different stages of restoration.
There is a $6 donation for the program and reservations can be made at 630-584-8485 or info@garfieldfarm.org.
The history of restoration talk is at 2 p.m. at Garfield Farm Museum, La Fox.
