Each week New Homes Marketplace asks questions of area homebuilders. Chris Naatz, vice president of sales for D.R. Horton’s Chicago division, provides this week’s answers.

Q: Why should I hire your company and what sets your company apart from other builders in the area?
— Matthew, Lockport

A: Homebuyers can take great comfort knowing D.R. Horton, the nation’s largest builder and active in more than 75 markets, is financially sound and prides itself on quality construction and customer care. In Chicagoland, D.R. Horton offers new home communities in many excellent locations including Naperville, New Lenox, Gurnee and Pingree Grove.

An example of commitment to quality and innovation is that every D.R. Horton home built in Chicago in 2017 is planned to be Energy Smart certified. Homes are tested by an independent company to verify they meet the Energy Smart criteria. Each new D.R. Horton homeowner in Chicago receives a certification with a HERS index rating, an industry standard for measuring efficiency. More information about the Energy Smart designation is available at resnet.us/professional/energysmart-builder.

D.R. Horton builds a selection of new homes available for quick move-in. Buyers that need a new home in a short timeframe can often find what they need with homes under construction for customers that may not have the time to build from the start.

Q: When do I need to have decisions made about cabinets, paint colors, flooring, lighting, etc.?
— Gregg, Aurora

A: In some D.R. Horton communities, the homebuyer makes all of the interior color selections within 30 to 45 days of the purchase. In other communities, the selections may be done sooner because D.R. Horton offers professionally designed interior color groupings to showcase how various combinations of selections such as cabinets, flooring and countertops work together.

Approximately 70 to 80 percent of all D.R. Horton Chicago area sales are quick move-in homes — homes that are already under construction before a buyer signs a sales contract. In most of these homes, the interior selections have already been identified or installed and customers are able to see exactly what they are getting. Homebuyers love being able to see the actual cabinets, flooring and other features that will be in the home they are purchasing.
