Marquette Park United Methodist Church: 215 N. Grand Blvd. — A “Black History Celebration” will be held during 10:15 a.m. services Feb. 19. Guest speaker Orlando Johnson will give a dramatic presentation about the contributions of African-American soldiers during the Civil War. A luncheon will follow. New Beginnings Christian Ministry: 901 W. 47th Ave. — “How Great Is Our God,” a collage of black history skits, will be held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 25. Produced and directed by Alice R. First Baptist Church: 626 W. 21st Ave. — To commemorate Black History Month, the Miriam Missionary Ministry will present highlights of the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 18. The theme is “The Role of Education in the History of African Americans.” Scripture for the event is Habakkuk 1:2-5. Rev. Lawrence Robertson, senior pastor and historian at Christ Baptist Church in Gary, will be guest speaker at the 10 a.m. service Feb. 25. “Taste of Soul Food” will be held following the service.
